Links are not a list
A notes app, a folder of tabs, and a thread of addresses is how most hunts start. Then someone asks which homes are still in play, and nobody can answer without scrolling.
A house hunting shortlist is smaller than your bookmarks. It is the homes you would tour again or write an offer on. Type the address. Drop the rest.
Bookmarks and a notes app fail the same test as a thread. They hold links. They do not hold a mark from each person who has a vote. Fifteen open tabs are a pile you can search. They are not a list the household can stand in front of.
How to keep one list
Add only the homes still in play. Type the street — do not paste a listing-site link and hope the thread remembers it. Rate with the people deciding. Decide from those scores.
Each voter leaves a mark on those addresses: a rating, a sentence, a no. “I haven’t walked it” is a real status. “Whatever you think” is not. If only one person has walked the houses, the household has not decided. They have been briefed.
A home that blows how much house we can afford does not stay in play. Type the address, then drop it, the same way you drop a house nobody would tour again.
The list should be short enough to read in one sitting. If you cannot name the addresses without opening a tab, it is not a shortlist yet. Cut until the people who have a vote can hold the same three or five homes in their heads.
After you tour
The shortlist is the homes. A tour sheet is what you check while you walk — light, layout, the street.
Use the house hunting checklist for that walk, then put the score back on the shortlist. The walk notes do not replace the list. They update the mark on that address.
Do not start a second list for “houses we saw.” The shortlist is those houses, with Saturday’s marks on them. A new sheet in Notes is how the hunt splits again.
