Why is group chat house hunting not a shortlist?
A thread stacks the newest link on top and buries the homes you already liked. Nobody can open the same list and see which addresses are still in play.

Partners and family drop listing links in iMessage and WhatsApp. A group chat collects homes. It does not keep a shortlist.
The thread is a pile
Someone sends 88 Camino Verde, San Mateo, CA. A heart lands on it. Someone else drops three more links and a voice note. A parent forwards a fourth into a different WhatsApp thread. By Saturday you have a dozen homes across iMessage and WhatsApp, and no one can say which three you would still tour.
A group chat is good at dumping. It is bad at deciding. The newest link sits on top. The house you both liked on Tuesday is four screens up, under a voice note and a heart on the wrong photo. A reaction is not a rating. A forwarded link is not “still considering.” The thread cannot filter. It can only grow.
If two people are saving links in two apps, you do not have one pile. You have two. Asking “what was that San Mateo one?” means scrolling, then guessing which thread. iMessage does not show the WhatsApp history. WhatsApp does not show the heart you left on Thursday. That is group chat house hunting. It is not a list.
You also cannot pin “still in play.” You can only react again, which puts the link back on top as if it were new. The person who missed Thursday never sees 88 Camino Verde unless someone forwards it. Then it looks like a fresh listing to everyone else. The dump keeps moving. The houses you meant to keep do not.
What a shortlist is
A shortlist is the homes you are still considering, in one place, with the same people looking. Type the address. Rate those homes. Decide from your people’s scores.
The chat can stay for logistics — who is driving, what time the showing is. It should not be the list. Paste a showing time in iMessage. Put 88 Camino Verde on the shortlist, or drop it. Do not leave it as a blue link and a heart.
A heart on a link also does not say how much house we can afford. Check that number before the thread grows again. A listing you cannot carry month to month does not belong in the next forward.
